I was able to attend a wedding workshop put on by
Shoot Outside the Box. It was a styled shoot where I could learn more about the ins and outs of wedding photography from some experienced wedding photographers. I had a blast and loved learning as much as I could.
The theme of the wedding was, "Peace, Love, and Happiness." It was a 70's theme with lots of colors set against the beautiful backdrop of
Mercury Hall in Austin, TX. Our models were Lauren Wiles and Sean Craig.
Gift bags were made for the guests by the flowergirl. They were given a rainbow look with the use of watercolors on white gift bags.
Mercury Hall is a beautiful white cottage with great stained glass windows. It is basic enough to be transformed for almost any theme, but beautiful enough to stand on it's own.
Visual Lyrics created the florals used throughout the shoot. Since we were working with a 70's theme, they went for a "fresh picked out of the garden" feel. The colors and styling were amazing!

Vintiques is a vintage rental company that provided the couches, chairs, tables, and decor.
Catering with a Twist provided the meal for our lovely bride and groom. They started the service with a Fondue cart. This is a great idea for appetizers or even a dessert bar. The dinner consisted of a Waldorf Apple Salad within an apple cup, Shake-n-Bake Drummettes, and a Petite Baked Potato. It looked wonderful!
The beautiful and non-traditional wedding cake was provided by
Fine Arts Bakery, a new baker in Austin, that specializes in cakes and cookies. Cookie gift boxes were provided for the wedding party and parents of the bride and groom.
Summer Edwards of Loud Looks did a wonderful job on the hair and makeup for the models. She added hair extensions to our bride giving her more of a hippie look. The lace in the bride's hair was hand-dyed and Summer added in feathers in the back to hold it together.
The dress was purchased on etsy and dyed with an ombre effect. The bride created the beautiful feather earrings herself. The remainder of the jewelry was borrowed, but could be purchased in vintage stores.
The flower girl is actually the daughter of Jessica Monnich of
Jessica Monnich Photography and
Shoot Outside the Box. The dress she wore was handmade for Jessica by her grandmother when she was little.
Visual Lyrics and Vintques created the lounge scene on the lawn of
Mercury Hall that would be perfect for guests to relax and take in the activities of the day.
The entire day was filmed by Adam Grumbo of
Adam Grumbo Wedding Films. He was wonderful to work with and captured all of the excitement of the day perfectly. Adam does a great job of understanding the ins and outs of filming weddings. He works very well with the photographer and bride and groom to capture the emotion and excitement of the day.
The bride and groom made their exit through a colorful cloud of holi powder.
From Jessica Monnich's blog: "Holi Powder exit tips: To do this in a real wedding make sure you inform guests before hand (i.e. in your invitation) that you will be doing this and encourage them to bring a change of clothes and a towel for their car to sit on. And if they don’t want to participate they can watch the magic from the sidelines. We also found that you need a pretty good sized handful to really get an impact and to throw it a little above their heads. Make sure the bride and groom close their eyes and mouths as they walk through the color fog but you can still smile while doing it for photos. Make sure you do it in a spot that will wash off from the rain or the parking lot to where it will be ok to be colored (clear with venue first). Also ask the groomsmen or someone you trust to get a hose or bunches of buckets of water to rinse it away. Take your time and walk slowly so your photographer can really capture the moment. And if you don’t have enough color go back through the line and do it again!"
